Sizes & Fit

Our boots generally run true to size. If they run larger or smaller, this will be stated in the product description. If experience tells you that you are "between two sizes", we recommend that you choose the larger size.

When you try on the boots, please remember that they are made of real leather and will stretch with wear.

The shoe size chart gives you an overview. You can also have your shoe size determined using a foot measuring device in any shoe store. This is the safest method.

For some models we can also offer smaller or larger sizes (34-50). Just ask us. If required, we can also develop the right last (shoe shape) for each model in a smaller or larger size. We would be happy to give you a detailed quote.

Would you like to have your boots made to measure, but are unsure about how to measure them? Just watch the following video, which shows in detail which parts of the leg should be measured. Since

If you would like us to measure you professionally, make an appointment in one of our showrooms or visit us at a trade fair .

Your boots may seem a bit difficult to put on in the beginning. Take your time and a seat, make sure your leg is straight and relaxed, when you close the zipper carefully. Your boots are supposed to be too tight at the beginning. As soon as the leather gets warm and you start to move, it will stretch to your size. It will get smoother and snuggle with your legs. After a while, you will just glide in.

Your boots are coming directly from production. They may still have glue odor. Don‘t worry, the smell will disappear quickly. The leather smell will remain.

Handle the zipper with care. The easiest way to open and close it is if the teeth are opposite each other and you lift the slide slightly. Then the small leather strip that lies under the zipper cannot get caught.

To ensure that the boots fit as they should, make sure that the shaft is pulled up all the way and that the seams are not twisted.

Our gloves are made from supple and very soft leather. This also means that the leather stretches when worn. That's why we recommend that you always order the gloves a little smaller. To determine your glove size , place the tightly pulled tape measure around the widest part of your flat hand just below the knuckles and read the measurement. The thumb is not included in the measurement. You can see which glove size fits in the fit table below. If you are between two sizes, then definitely choose the smaller size.
Fun fact: The glove sizes are in inches. Size 7 corresponds to a circumference of 7 inches.

Hand circumference 16 cm = size 6
Hand circumference 17 cm = size 6.5
Hand circumference 17.5 cm = size 7
Hand circumference 18.5 cm = size 7.5
Hand circumference 19.5 cm = size 8
Hand circumference 20.5 cm = size 8.5
Hand circumference 21.5 cm = size 9
Hand circumference 22.5 cm = size 9.5

Oh no! The gloves are too tight around the wrist.
Don't panic, they most likely are not.
The gloves are intentionally cut tight so that they fit snugly around the wrist later.
The leather is very soft and stretchy and will conform to your arm as you wear it.

When putting it on for the first time, we recommend:
1) Work your way forward piece by piece, the leather will hold.
2) Make sure your hands and arms are dry. A little powder can be helpful.
3) Leave the gloves on for one to two hours the first time. After that, putting them on will be easy. Your gloves will mold to your arm.

material

When making our Fernando Berlin boots and gloves, we only use the highest quality materials. Leather is our preferred material because it has the best properties for a boot. It is extremely easy to shape, is stable and breathable. Which leather is used depends primarily on the model. For boot models that should fit tightly and supplely on the leg, we use finely cut, soft-tanned cow or lamb leather, which is ideal because of its fine grain and smooth surface ("soft leather"). Stable and firmly processed cow leather is perfect for models whose shaft should remain dimensionally stable ("solid leather"). Here Ferdinand shows you the difference: https://youtu.be/YDJXFBkub2c

The finish of the leather determines whether it is glossy or matte. We prefer a glossy finish. As an alternative to leather, we also offer almost all models in vinyl. The base is a sturdy textile fabric that is covered with vinyl.

The inner lining is made of soft pigskin or calfskin. Unlined boots have a goatskin lining at the end of the shaft.

We source all of our leather exclusively from European production, usually from Portugal, Spain or Italy.

For some models, our designer Ferdinand recommends suede, which many people know as "suede". This is genuine leather. Suede is split leather. While smooth leather consists of the top layer of a skin, suede consists of the underlying layer of skin. It is characterized by its velvety feel.

If you want to avoid leather altogether, you can also order all Fernandos in imitation leather.

Please remember that leather is a natural product. Irregularities and color variations are part of the patina of this wonderful material. Close your eyes when you stroke the shaft of your Fernandos and you will feel it!

FAQ

SERVICE

To ensure that you can enjoy your Fernandos for a long time, we have a few tips for you on storage and care.

Our boot hooks are particularly good for storing boots and are a real eye-catcher. Each hook can usually accommodate a pair of knee-high boots, but for models that are over the knee and longer, we recommend one hook per boot.

If you care for your boots regularly, the material will thank you with a beautiful shine and long durability. Since leather is skin, it should be treated with unscented moisturizer or milk when it feels dry or every 6-8 weeks. For a beautiful shine, it is best to use shoe polish that contains wax. Rub it in, allow it to take effect and then polish with a microfiber cloth or old nylon tights. The heat that is created by the friction when polishing makes the wax and thus the leather shine. Please use leather grease no more than once a year, otherwise the leather will become dull.

There are special leather shampoos to remove stains. However, a little water and a brush or paper towel are usually enough to clean the boots.

We would be happy to put together a suitable package with care and cleaning utensils for you

Walking perfectly in high heels

Heels and comfort - this seems to contradict each other, but there are high heels that are surprisingly comfortable. Not necessarily for walking, but you can wear them for a night without pain. We often hear from customers: "I really can't wear high heels. 5 to 6 cm is my maximum." But if the shoes are properly balanced - that means that the heel height fits the shoe perfectly - even 10 cm is comfortable. That's why we pay attention to well-balanced heels.
The heel height depends on the last the shoe is made from; the heel shape must match the look of the boot. Some of our models have a platform sole, which makes wearing very high heels much easier.
Our filter options in the webshop make it easy to find the right heel.
It is not possible to reduce the heel height of a boot model. However, you are welcome to put together your own individual combination of shoe and shaft
We are happy to advise you!
